Frequently Asked Questions/Tips
What do I need to bring?
Here is a list of things that you need to bring with you to your first match:
- Gun and magazines – ideally you should have at least four magazines, but bring what you have
- Ammunition (bring about one hundred rounds – extra is always good)
- Belt, Holster (kydex or leather), belt, and magazine pouches (please no shoulder, cross-draw, “Uncle Mikes” or similar, or deep concealment holsters)
- Shooting glasses, earplugs and/or earmuffs (preferably both)
- Comfortable Shoes
- Bag to carry your gear
I’d like to come, but I can’t commit to a “league.” Can I just come once to try it out?
You are welcome to come shoot any match as your schedule permits. Each match is scored individually, so there are no “seasons” to worry about – no long-term commitment is required to come shoot!
It sounds interesting, but I’m not good enough to “compete.” How good do you have to be to participate?
We welcome shooters of all ages and skill levels! Juniors (12-18 years old) must be accompanied by a family member that is of legal age.
From a gun handling perspective, we require that you can demonstrate safe firearm handling practices. You should be comfortable in the SAFE operation of your firearm of choice – including SAFE loading, unloading, reloading, and holstering.
A GIRL AND A GUN WOMEN’S SHOOTING LEAGUE
A Girl & A Gun Women’s Shooting League (AG & AG) is a shooting club established by women shooters for women shooters. AG & AG events are fun, social gatherings where you get firearms training and encouragement, ask questions in a safe and nonjudgmental environment, improve your marksmanship, and make new friends. All AG & AG events are supervised by Certified Firearms Instructors. All facilitators are women who can “speak girl” and provide techniques and tips for female shooters. Our goal is to empower, educate, and have fun at the range. AG & AG events have been successful stepping stones for thousands of women. At our events and through articles and information, we provide:
Basics of gun handling and safetyRange etiquette
Proper grip techniques
Stance for accurate shooting
Trigger control and follow through
Sight picture and sight alignment
Please know that we cannot give a formal training class in a casual environment at Girl’s Night Out and that is not our intent. If you are a new shooter, we strongly encourage that you seek a firearms instructor for an introductory class. AG & AG will be a resource for you to help find the right instructor and/or classes.
While our mission is to educate women on safe and accurate shooting, our organization is about so much more than shooting! It’s about Confidence, Empowerment, Support, Friendships, Knowledge, Fun, Self-Reliance, and so much more. Everyday we witness the transformation of women who set out to learn how to shoot and in the process discover a confidence in themselves that improves all areas of their lives. Whether you’re interested in competition, concealed carry, home defense, the safe storage of guns in the home, or you just want to get out of the house and try something new, please join us at an upcoming event.
